The unpredictability of severe weather can disrupt even the most carefully planned logistics. When storms strike, the journey your package takes changes instantly to ensure safety and security. At Mail Call, we understand the anxiety this causes, so we want to pull back the curtain on what actually happens behind the scenes during these inevitable delays.

Safety Protocols Halt Transit

When severe weather strikes, major carriers prioritize safety above all else. Trucks pull off the road and flights are grounded immediately to prevent accidents. While this causes frustration, it ensures that your shipment eventually arrives intact. We constantly monitor these carrier alerts to keep you informed about any sudden logistical pauses in transit.

Warehousing at Regional Hubs

Once transit stops, your package is typically routed to the nearest regional hub for temporary storage. These facilities are designed to handle high volumes, keeping parcels dry and secure until conditions improve. This intermediate stop prevents your items from being left exposed on a tarmac or stranded in a truck for days.

The Importance of Proper Packaging

Extreme weather often brings extreme temperatures. If you are shipping sensitive items, relying on standard boxes can be risky. We recommend using temperature-controlled packaging services to protect against freezing or heat. Proper insulation ensures your goods remain stable even if they sit in a warehouse longer than expected.

As skies clear, carriers tackle the backlog by rerouting shipments through the safest available corridors. As your local Santa Fe mail center, we often see packages arrive in waves following a storm.
